Our Privacy Officer is responsible for protecting your personal information. Contact them with any privacy question, request, or complaint.
When you search for a book we don’t have yet, the title or author you typed is sent to public book catalogs (such as Audible, Audnexus, Google Books, and Open Library) to look up its details. Our new-release alerts check public catalogs (Audible and Hardcover) for the narrators people follow. These lookups contain book and narrator names only — never your account information.
Some features are powered by Anthropic’s Claude AI — for example, “Read My Tree” (which interprets your reading history) and book club discussion questions. When you use these features, the relevant data (such as the books in your library, your ratings and statuses, and narrators you follow) is processed by Anthropic to generate the result. We do not send your name or email. Anthropic processes this data under written terms that limit its use to providing the service.
Some things only happen with your clear opt-in:
You can withdraw consent at any time in the app or by emailing us. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did lawfully before you withdrew it.
Pour les utilisateurs au Québec : vous pouvez donner ou retirer votre consentement en français. Écrivez-nous à beth@listentrees.com et nous vous répondrons en français.
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers who need it to run Listen Trees, under written agreements:
| Provider | Location | What they do |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | United States | Database and backend hosting (your account and library) |
| WorkOS | United States | Sign-in and authentication |
| PostHog | United States | Product analytics and crash reports |
| Anthropic | United States | AI features |
| Expo | United States | App update delivery and (once launched) push notification delivery |
| Apple / Google | United States | App distribution and push notification delivery |
| Netlify | United States | Website hosting and library imports |
We will also share information if required by law, or to protect the safety and rights of our users.
Narrator audience statistics: narrators who claim their profiles can see aggregated statistics about their audience (such as follower counts and how many listeners track their books). These are aggregates only — any figure involving fewer than 5 listeners is hidden — and narrators never see any individual listener’s data.
Book clubs are social by design. When you join a club, other members of that club can see your display name and your role (e.g., Organizer). Books you add to club lists — such as Future Picks or Shake the Tree candidates — are attributed to you by display name, and club stats may show how many picks each member has added. Members cannot see your email address, library, or listening activity. You choose your display name in Profile & Settings and can change it at any time. If you attend a club meeting in person, the organizer may add your first name to the roster as a guest.
Our service providers are in the United States, so your information may be transferred and stored outside your province or country, including outside Quebec and outside Canada. We assess these transfers for privacy impact before making them, and we require our providers by contract to protect your information and use it only to provide their service.
For users in the United Kingdom, we ensure an appropriate safeguard for transfers to the United States, such as the UK–US Data Bridge (for providers certified under it) or standard contractual clauses in our vendor agreements. For users in Australia, we only disclose information to overseas providers that protect it to a substantially similar standard, as the Australian Privacy Principles require.
Australia’s Privacy Act includes a small-business exemption that may mean it does not currently apply to us. Regardless, we voluntarily handle your information according to the principles in this notice — including limits on overseas disclosure and breach notification — and will comply fully if and when the exemption no longer applies.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures — encryption in transit, access controls, and written processor agreements. No system is perfectly secure, and transmission of your information is at your own risk.
We keep a register of privacy incidents. If an incident poses a serious risk to you, we will notify you and the relevant regulator promptly — in Quebec, the Commission d’accès à l’information; elsewhere in Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner; in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office; in Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner — and tell you what happened and what we are doing about it.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
How to exercise them: email beth@listentrees.com. We respond within 30 days (within one month for UK requests, as UK GDPR requires). To delete your account: in the app, open Profile & Settings (the squirrel on the Home screen) and tap Delete my account. This immediately deletes your account and your data — your library, ratings, follows, club memberships, alerts, and sign-in. You can also email us and we’ll do it for you.
Listen Trees is not for children under 18. If we learn we have collected a child’s information, we will delete it.
We will update this notice as the app evolves (for example, as new features launch). Material changes will be announced in the app or by email. The effective date at the top always shows the current version.
